Tim and I share a goal for 2015: that we would let the Word of Christ dwell in us richly.
I want that for him. He wants that for me. We both want that for our children. It is the best gift we can give them this year--two parents who love the Word of God and saturate their lives with it. That is our goal. That is our desire. We want to feed them the Word of God. We want to feast on it as a family. There are many ways to do this. We plan to read the Bible together as a family at one meal a day, at least. We plan to take them to church with us and to as many chapel services at BJMBC as possible. We plan to talk about the Word of God in natural conversations as we sit in our house or walk by the way. And we plan to read through the Bible ourselves this year, and take our children with us in a way that is age-appropriate for them. So I have printed for myself a calendar with suggested reading passages for each day. Each morning at breakfast, if you listened in, you would hear us ask each other, "What chapters did you read today?" As a family, we hold each other accountable. I am fascinated by hearing what they learned in their Bible reading. To hear an eight-year-old boy summarize a passage from Chronicles is sometimes profound and occasionally humorous. But always heart-warming. If you would like to join my family in reading through the Bible this year, you can find a printable Bible reading plan from the web or a Bible program. If you have never read through the Bible in one year before, why not try it this year? It isn't hard. My daughter made it through the entire Bible when she was only 11. My eleven-year-old son completed the entire Bible in 2014. My eight-year-old made it through the New Testament and will finish the Old Testament by the end of this year, Lord willing. Even my six-year-old has his own One Year Bible with smaller sized portions to read this year. If they can do it, you can! Give your family the gift of the Word of Christ this year! |
